No eres de Bilbao y andas un poco perdido, normal en uno. De repente ves en lo alto al Chef y a una camarera indicarte por señas que has de entrar por el otro lado. Mientras giras la camarera baja a recibirte, esto promete! El local acogedor, y sorprendentemente decorado, en un muy buen entorno. Nos atienden con amabilidad y, dado que estamos de paso, nos inclinamos por el menú del chef para saborear al máximo posible la cocina de Fernando Canales, Y hasta aquí mi opinión. Las palabras no salen, sólo vienen recuerdos de unas anchoas, de un ajoblanco, de una salsa de mejillones envolviendo una merluza... Pendiente quedan algunos platos de la carta, lo cual me obligará a volver a Bilbao que, por cierto, también nos ha sorprendido. gratamente. Hasta la próxima!

During our trip to the Spanish Basque region, we visited several top restaurants in the area. We had one of the best meals at Etxanobe. Chef Fernando Canales was a wonderful and humble host as well as an amazing chef.

Muy buena experiencia

We had difficulty finding the restaurant as the address wasn't liked by the smart phones we were using and couldn't navigate us to the precise address - we tried to suggest better signage/directions to our maître d' and waitress as a recommendation for the website etc but were told that it hasn't posed a problem to others. On our arrival (unfortunately we were late after getting lost repeatedly) we weren't refused our table, re-seated, criticised or rushed at all and were warmly welcomed and accommodated with a free aperitif, which given our trek around Bilbao was very much needed! The food itself was excellent - although we hadn't anticipated the large fish courses which we had ordered as a prelude to our main course. The pictures on the iPad made the courses look quite delicate and small but the portions were generous, so in hindsight we shouldn't have ordered more and been greedy but it was worth it as all of my plates were exquisite. Although, I had no room for a dessert or coffee!

If there is a heaven, the truffle asparagus dish is surely served there. This was a world class meal. If ever I have the chance to come to Bilbao again, this is the place I will come to eat. It is expensive but fabulous.
